Biography
Lars Krantz (née Lars Mertanen) was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1959. His family moved to Spain in 1973. In the early 80's he studied art in Madrid and in 1984 he moved back to Sweden. He has been working with art and music since the early 80's.
Art
His interest in Hollywood movies from the 40's, 50's and 60's shows through in his art, as does his interest in motorcycles and music. The pictures have an almost photographic quality and often a somber tone. Most of his work are oil paintings and pencil drawings, although he has recently started experimenting with acrylics. He's had several exhibitions, mostly in Stockholm galleries. Please visit the Art Section for some samples of his work.
Music
His interest in music started in the early 70's when he discovered T.Rex, Alice Cooper and Black Sabbath. When Punk Rock struck him in 1977 he had also discovered Elvis Presley, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, the Doors and Johnny Cash. Inspired by the Punk Movement he started playing the guitar and in 1980 he started his first band. Since then he has also developed a liking for Hank Williams, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Nat "King" Cole, Dean Martin, Nick Cave and Tom Waits. His music is a melting pot of all these influences. Please visit the Music Section for more information on his music.
